Jellyfin on Android is very intermittently showing the 'Google Cast' option when the 'Play On' button is pressed.

The Google Cast option can sometimes be present and sometimes not be present while playing the same media file.

When the option for Google Cast appears playback works generally fine through casting, although the Android app did crash once.

The Google Cast option has been confirmed missing on 2 different Android devices. Both Android devices can mirror screen through Android OS settings to the cast devices without any problems.

There are 3 devices on my local network that work as casting destinations when the Google Cast option does show up.

    I've tried:
    • Power cycling the devices
    • Disabling & Re-enabling Wi-Fi & Bluetooth on the Android devices

    Setup:
    • Jellyfin Android App 2.6.2
    • Jellyfin Server 10.9.9
    • Installed on Debian 12 via repos
    • Chromecast 2013? model, CCWGTV, Google Nest Hub

Thanks in advance for your help Smiling-face

I'd use the Android TV app on your CCwGTV.

The one thing I noticed with my setup is that the TV's have to be on for Jellyfin to see my CCwGTV 4K's as casting targets. I don't have my old Chromecast 2 to test, so I'm not sure if the CCwGTVs would behave differently than older "dumb" Chromecasts.

    Thanks for the reply.

For the 2013 model ChromeCast unfortunately this isn't an option, it doesn't have the GTV functionality.

The android devices I'm using Jellyfin with will either:

    - Have no option for 'Google Cast' at all, or

    - Have the option to 'Google Cast' and see all 3 devices as available cast targets

It's a bit unusual seeing this all-or-nothing situation, especially seeing as the Android devices can screen mirror directly to the ChromeCast without any problem.
