Yes that's right, I want to be able to filter say - 2025 - scfi and compound them like I can in the browser GUI.
This feature that is lacking really makes using the Android TV app a real chore.
There are other things about it I don't like, but filters - sorting - sort order - release date etc. are right up there on the list.

Please consider keeping the search ability permanent on all pages like the home button. Using the voice search is currently the quickest way to reach content. It also works for filters like UMPA mentioned. Are your concepts for future changes somewhere readable? After some adjustments on the server side (dynamic movie collections), the frequent use of personal playlists and voice search made using the A-TV app quite pleasing for me. But I'm also curious about future changes.

As a Kodi user for many a year, last October (2025) I started a move to Jellyfin.  The *Web Browser* UI is absolutely great... and the the Android Mobile App is very very good too.

With all the respect I can muster in the universe, the Android TV app is nearly actually just 'trash' - not least for one singular but important reason: the lack of 'Genre filtering'.

The "casual user" actually doesn't want to browse their media and choose something ("10000 channels and dont know what to watch" syndrome) - but most people know they want to "watch sci-fi" or "watch comedy" or "watch animation" or "watch westerns" - and once a genre is chosen they can simply 'Shuffle Play' in their chosen genre from the Web and Mobile interfaces so the computers feed them something and they can hit "Next" if they dont like it until they hit something they *didn't realise* they fancied watching.

The Android TV app doesnt have 'Genres' for some reason I cant quite fathom. But equally so, is the almost "Fisher Price" UI the Android TV version has. It seems to need a complete re-design - getting from a film list UP to the menu items at the top is only possible if you also scroll 3 or 4 movies over to the right first, for example.

Pressing the Back button twice just completely exits the application without seemingly any configurable warning/prompt.

I could list a bunch more nuances of fault but it would seem unfair. Alas, experiencing the Android TV app when compared to the Jellyfin Web UI and other Android TV apps like Kodi, is .... unfortunately just sad

To try and end on a positive note; the whole Jellyfin ecosystem is very very very much appreciated and 80% of it is absolutely great. The fact its opensource is amazing, the fact it's made effectively by volunteers is amazing, and by and large it is a great product (it of course has issues and there is perhaps *too* many ways to install it on linux  , but its all very much appreciated by anyone with half a brain) - thanking everyone involved!!
