I'm currently using Jellyfin Media Player and its working pretty great. I was just wondering if there are any plans for or maybe another client that can breakout the video and allow browsing in the background without turning off the current video? I mainly host music dvds and music videos and I tend to skip around a lot. I would like to keep rocking while I look for the next song if that makes sense!

I will have to test this when I get home to make sure I'm not misremembering. I'm pretty sure the issue you are having is related to your browser's power saving settings. I know several browsers are starting to more aggressively put to sleep background tabs, by default.

I guess i'm confused how I would even do it. When I hit back, or home the video stops and i'm back to the main menu. I was wondering if I could get the video to play in a separate window while i browse my server.

oh oh oh. Ok. I misunderstood. AFAIK, that is not possible with video in the same tab. If you open another tab for Jellyfin the music will continue playing, obviously no video.

I'm not aware of a way to have the video player minimize within a tab. Definitely not with the official clients and I'm not aware of any 3rd party clients that support this on a desktop.

There are existing feature requests for this.

Lateral thinking option: use the native windows client as your 'main' (the one you're watching or want to have in the background); fire up a separate browser session and login to JF on that using a different user account (nothing says you have to have only one) and use that to browse while the main client plays. If anything strikes your fancy, simply find+play/list it on the main client.
