To make things easy across many different FireTV devices I typcally just run Kodi's backup program and restore to new devices. I just started using Jellyfin so naturally I restored my backup to a new device, but it seems to keep the same "device name" even though this is a new device. For instance, my main Firetv is named "LivingFire", then my new device automatically identifies as "LivingFire" instead of just a generic "Kodi" as it should.

Then I need to reset the user, which I did figure out, just "update password" and log in as the new user and repair libraries.

A repair of the local database did not fix the problem with the device name though.

What I'm wanting to do is:

Have Jellyfin for Kodi show up as a new device (however to reset that to something else)

Any idea on how to reset the device to identify as a new, unique device would be appreciated.

    Thanks

open the addon settings in kodi

    addons -> jellyfin -> settings

on the first screen, at the bottom, "Use alternate device name" -> On

then a box will show up under it, enter a new device name there

    press OK to save

    restart kodi

Thanks Tmsrxzar. It works for the name on the dashboard, but when I look at "Devices" it still shows the name of my living room Firetv, and it logs out my user on the living room. Do you know what the server uses to figure out what device it's getting requests from? Like a unique ID string?

The name is purely cosmetic. The actual thing you're looking for is in a file named "jellyfin_guid" in your userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.jellyfin directory. However, I have no idea how you're going to get to that location on an androidtv device. Due to the way authentication works in the server, I also have no idea if just changing that file is going to work. There's a good chance that you'll have to change the id, and then refresh the client/api authentication, and possibly do a metadata refresh after that. I suspect you'll be better off deleting everything and starting fresh so there's no lingering weirdness.

As an aside, this is exactly the situation that we try to avoid by having this note in the docs about not copying files between separate installs: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/client...le-clients

Thanks MCarlton! I'll edit that puppy in ADBfire and see if it works. I've had trouble removing/reinstalling before and ended up with a scrambled install. If this works, it'll fix all my problems.
BTW, the full path for anyone else attempting this is
    /sdcard/Android/data/org.xmbc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.jellyfin/jellyfin_guid

One final update. This worked PERFECTLY. You are now in my will, mcarlton!
I did have to go to the home screen, settings, applications, manage applications, kodi, FORCE STOP, then CLEAR CACHE, but after that there was no more conflict.
My backup/restores will be so easy moving forward.
    Thanks again!
