Is there any plugins to add eq and compressor to the audio for books?

Plugins cannot add that kind of functionality, unfortunately. You'd need to use a third party application to do that and that can vary depending on the client OS.

I see, thats too bad, i was also thinking about using compressor and eq for series and movies.

I dont really understand though, probably because I dont understand the whole tech stac for jellyfin, but ffmpeg is the underlying tool to process video and audio, and ffmpeg has built in compressor and equlizer.

Would it not be possible to expose some controls for the user to manipulate?

Jellyfin has a compression option, but only when audio is transcoded. If the audio is direct playing, then ffmpeg isn't in the equation.

Ok, how do I access the compressor?

On that note, would it be possible to enable eq options when transcoding?

Looking at it again, this wouldn't apply to audio books.  In Dashboard > Playback, there is a setting called "Stereo Downmix Algorithm" and one of the settings, "NightmodeDialogue" compresses the audio.  But this would only apply to surround sound, as the setting name implies, and not stereo or mono audio books.

Aren't audio books pretty compressed to begin with?  I haven't encountered an audio book that I had issues with too much dynamic range or excessively quiet portions of the narration.

    No.

Typically, yes they are, but not every book is made the same.
That is also why I am asking about eq.

why would it not be possible to implement eq, if the compressor already to some extent is implemented.
And, curious about why it is not available for stereo?

If no transcoding of the audio is happening then ffmpeg and any compression options aren't applied anyway.

And even when audio is being transcoded, the server is not coded to apply the selected down mix algorithm to stereo/mono sources.

Jellyfin apps can have compression and EQ options in them but the official apps don't and plugins cannot add that level of functionality to them. The only app I know of with EQ is Symfonium. But it doesn't support book libraries. And none, AFAIK, have in compression functionality.

Symfonium support audio book libraries and it's EQ have a compressor.
