I've been running Kodi on a raspberry pi. Using whatever Just Enough OS for Kodi (OpenElec?) and it works OK. I don't use it for a single thing other than TV and Movie playback.
Had a hard drive failure, lost some data. Decided I want a Synology NAS. If I can host SabNZB and Sonaar on the Synology and download things directly to the NAS, that's sweet. So maybe I could host a container with JellyFin server too... Then my parents could use their Roku to access. This all seems great and better than what I have now.
1. Which Synology do I want, how important is GPU? I was looking at a DS923+, but unlike the old DS920, it does not have an integrated GPU. I assume that I want a NAS with a GPU if I'm going to transcode 4K files down to 1080. Right? I also assume a CPU can do this much less efficiently. How important is this? Would transcoding two playbacks at once completely bog down a DS923+?
2. Is my LG CX OLED going to be a great player? Or should I keep the rasp pi? I looked at the repo, there seem to be a couple people here or there complaining about stuttering issues or playback flaws. It would be cool to get rid of the Pi, but I have zero tolerance for stutters and issues. If I have to keep the Pi I probably need to keep Kodi. It needs to be 100% and native. I also have an Xbox, but I've already read about that not being great.
3. If the RaspPi is required, is running it via an OS and then Kodi a good idea? Or is there perhaps a Just Enough OS for Jellyfin, or a lean Anroid version that would be better?
4. Can I restrict DLNA to internal network only? I'm not sure if this is more in Jellyfin or if it's in the NAS.
Thank you!
