    Hi reader,

I am new here, so I am sorry if I seem vague when describing the issue:

Anyway, I got a nice .mkv file, roughly 10GB in size. More info here:
    • Video
    • Title 4K HEVC SDR
    • Codec HEVC
    • Profile Main 10
    • Level 150
    • Resolution 3840x1610
    • Aspect ratio 2.40:1
    • Interlaced No
    • Framerate 23.976025
    • Bitrate 6742 kbps
    • Bit depth 10 bit
    • Video range SDR
    • Video range type SDR
    • Color space bt709
    • Color transfer bt709
    • Color primaries bt709
    • Pixel format yuv420p10le
    • Ref frames 1

Whenever I stream this to my Windows 11 computer, or Android phone, it works great, transcoding happens, and I can watch it fine. However, when streaming to Chromecast, nothing happens, just a black screen and a play button that doesn't respond on the remote's end.

    Does anyone have a clue?

I am running a healthy xeon, 32GB of ecc ram, gigabit connection, P4000 Quadro.

Could you share with us your jellyfin and ffmpeg logs (if those exist)? Upload them to pastebin and share the link here.

This is the ffmpeg log, but besides that, I don't have a jellyfin log that contains errors, just the usual queries for optimizing the database(s), and similar scheduled tasks.

It is definitely transcoding and more than fast enough.

What kind of Chromecast are we talking about? A Chromecast with Google TV? Or an older "dumb" Chromecast?

Hi there, thanks for your reply. A chromecast 2018 model. Not ultra. Not TV. Not 4K. Just a basic 2018 model, that "normally" works perfect. According to Google's datasheets it should accept H.264 with AAC... Weirdly enough, the log says it's creating 4k~ resolution, while the chromecast should broadcast and only allow FHD...? Maybe it's the chromecast?

I'm not sure how device compatibility works when you are casting to an older chromecast. I do know that Jellyfin's casting is jank AF. It may not be correctly relaying the Chromecast's limitations (1080p60) to jellyfin.

In that case, I can safely assume it's chromecast's fault. Thanks.
