Cannot use video thumbnail

I am very new to Jellyfin and hope to use it to stream videos from Windows to iPad on the same network. The videos are all my own so there is no point to consult any external database about metadata. All I want is to see video thumbnails when my library is shown on the client.  Jellyfin UI is convoluted and so far I could not achieve that. Just a handful of videos got their correct thumbnails but others did not although they all are playable. Any tips?

I am assuming you are using the Movies and Shows library type. Try the Music Videos or Photos library type. Neither performs any metadata looks except whatever may be embedded in your files.

I tried to switch the library type to Music Videos and indeed some more video thumbnails appeared, but overall less than 10% of the video files got thumbnails and I cannot tell what is the difference between the files where it works and those where it doesn't.

I have spent quite some time looking how to change library settings and although I am sure I saw it during the initial setup now for the life of me I cannot find where to change it for the existing library. Is it even supported?
I cannot find how to create a new library either.
Help?

Click on your icon in the top right, Dashboard, Libraries. Click on an existing library. Scroll down and screen grabber is one of the image providers.
