Is it possible to add a server setting which lets the user select if the files should be played with Dolby Vision or HDR?
In my case my TV struggles with some DV files and since I can not choose to use HDR instead that would be a great feature.

While some DV profiles "fall back" to HDR10 (DV8.1), they are not the same and multiple HDR standards cannot exist in the same video stream. If you have separate files, one with DV and one with HDR10, we do support "versions" of movies. But not shows (yet).

But could there be something added to the setting which lets the user choose to priortise playing movies in HDR or DV?
In my case the movie has DV with fallback to HDR, but since my TV supports DV the fallback does not get triggered.
The issue with that is that somehow my tv messes up colors with DV so it would be great to watch it right away with HDR instead.

fwiw Kodi has such settings on pre-release versions and so does CoreELEC where it will convert on the fly (another reason i switched to CoreELEC)

I am not sure what that exactly is or does but I tried it with the official Kodi App from my TV's Appstore.
But when watching the movie with Kodi it chooses HDR instead of DV and then I dont have this washed out picture issue.
It would be great if Jellyfin adds this to their app clients to let people choose if they want to watch the content prefered in HDR or DV.

kodi has 20+ years at being a client with a lot more devs so the maturity of kodi leads to better playback support on a client; in my opinion
not to diminish any jellyfin devs' efforts they are just behind by a few years and i expect they will surpass kodi in the future

I don't say that Kodi is better or anything like that. Kodi V20 simply does not support DV and thats why it chooses HDR instead. The V21 Beta supports DV and there it also plays the movie with DV. But Kodi lets you decide if you want to watch your files with HDR or DV inside the settings.
Thats why it would be a great feature to get this implemented into Jellyfin.

So is there no way to get that implemented?

In the current version of Jellyfin, no. I'm not aware of a feature request for this function, so feel free to submit a request here.

Hey, sorry to open this thread again. In a strange way the latest release of Jellyfin fixed the Dolby Vision issue in my case. The last time I tried it (about the time I opened this thread), Dolby Vision in certain aspect ratios totally disabled the local dimming function of my TV.
With the latest version of the App everything is working now.
The strange thing is that if I watch the same file on Plex, there the Local Dimming issue still occures. Do you guys know what has changed to fix this issue?
Would be great to find a solution for all of my TV apps and not only Jellyfin
