TLDR: I'm seeing multiple episodes from the same show in Continue Watching. Both from the same and different seasons of the show.
---
Ever since I was a little kid, I've always found comfort in falling asleep to the TV in my bedroom, and I still do as an adult. I actually fall asleep much faster when I can listen to one of my favorite shows while closing my eyes and falling asleep. Much more effective than counting those da*n sheep...
The problem is that Jellyfin is not taking to kindly to my habits.
But before we go any further, you probably need to know my setup:
Let's continue:
There is no rime or reason to which season or episode I might play tonight or any night, as it's always a random eposide I choose.
"Play next episode automatically" is turned on, and the sleep timer is set to 4 hours (TV minimum).
You might be beating me to the punch by now, and as you might understand, the sleep timer on the TV is stopping the playback in the middle of an episode by killing the Chromecast. Just like I want it to!
But Jellyfin does not handle it well when I have multiple episodes of the same show unfinished, thus presenting me with as much as 5 different episodes of the same show in the Continue Watching section.
The big ones handles this really well:
Netflix, Amazon, etc. are all handling my sleepy habits really well. No matter what or how many episodes the Chromecast has ended mid playback, they always present me with only one episode of each show in Continue Watching, which is the one from my last playback that was cut off.
Desired outcome:
I really want Jellyfin to do the same. Only show me the last viewed episode of any given show in Continue Watching. No matter how many episodes I didn't finnish of that show before.
Can it? Can we make it? How?

But before we go any further, you probably need to know my setup:
- Jellyfin Server 10.10.7 (current) installed with the bash script @ Debian 12, running as a VM in Proxmox
- Media on a Netgear NAS with a single CIFS/SMB share, mounted by fstab to a mount point
- Android Client 2.6.3 (current)
- Google Chromecast 3rd gen, powered by the TV's USB port (2 amps)
