    Hi,

I was wondering, since I was not able to find an option for it, if it is possible to restrict subtitles to clients that can use them without burning them in? I.e. a way to disable subtitle burn in.

Since my jellyfin server hardware is not made for burning in subtitles, or generally transcoding, I need a way to disable burn in since not so tech savvy people in my household select subtitles willy-nilly and the server is overwhelmed if the client cannot deal with them.

I was already able to disabled subtitle extraction since that was bogging down the server as well when trying out subtitles. It kept extracting even though I already stopped the video.

Thanks for the info on how I may do that.

You cannot disable subtitle burn in without disabling transcoding as well. If that is what you want to do, you have to go into Dashboard > Users > Select a users, and in the media playback section uncheck all the boxes for allowing playback with transcoding. You will have to repeat this for all users.

But be prepared for issues. Transcodes don't happen for the lulz. The client requested it due to some compatibility issue.
