    Fider request: https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/3349...er-sources

    Full text of my request:

Most of my media (mostly MP4 video files and MP3 and M4A audio files) have embedded metadata. The video files have their metadata embedded by Subler (https://subler.org), which includes both tagged fields, cover art, and stills generated at chapter marks. The audio files have their metadata embedded by MusicBrainz Picard (https://picard.musicbrainz.org), which includes cover art and extensive tagged information about each track. I would like this metadata to take precedence over any other metadata from other sources.

Based on the Jellyfin documentation, only .nfo file metadata would take precedence over external metadata sources. Plex has always had an option which can be enabled to "Prefer local metadata", which is currently configurable in Plex on a per-library basis under "Advanced" (and has the description, "When scanning this library, prefer embedded tags and local files if present.") I and others rely on this feature and migrating to Jellyfin would be greatly aided by supporting a similar functionality. Note that I do not want to disable other metadata sources, I just want embedded metadata prioritized over other sources, so that in the event that I have media without embedded metadata, that Jellyfin could then gather that from other sources.

Some possible improvements over what Plex currently does would be being able to choose the priority of embedded vs. local files for metadata on a per-library basis, and being able to read the still images generated for the chapters in a video file that Subler embeds via the "Create Preview Images" feature it has (Plex does not recognize them, and instead takes the cover art for the video file and crops it down to 4:3 when viewing a season of TV episodes for instance, which looks bad and isn't useful since every episiode has the same cropped cover art).
