would love to see a fast lan > wan >lan transition depending on network configuration for mobile clients make it seemless as possible if on lan then use 192xxx if on wan then use hostname

There is a way to do this, but not in Jellyfin.

Many routers support a functionality call "NAT loopback". When the router resolves your domain and sees that it the result is itself, it will keep traffic local instead of routing it to the internet and back.

The other way to achieve this, which is what I do, is setup a custom DNS entry in my router so that all local clients will get the local IP whenever they attempt to resolve my domain. When my phone leaves my home network it will instead get the public IP. This method also has the benefit of not needing an Internet connection.

i do this currently but if im watching media and go from lan to wan and the buffer runs out, it prompts me to reconnect to the server. on android, often i have to force quit the app to get it to connect to the wan ip over the same hostname. didnt used to be this way but now it is.

I'll do some testing when I leave for work tomorrow morning. I use Finamp these days for music in my car. I'll test with the official Android app tomorrow morning.

I am a man of habit and forgot to switch apps this morning as I was leaving. I'll try again when I get home.

So simply turning off the WiFi during playback doesn't seem to cause issues transitioning from local DNS to remote DNS. I'm not sure if that would trigger the behavior. I'm off today, but when I leave for work tomorrow I will try to remember to use the official Android app instead of Finamp.

    DMd you some additional info

Streaming on WiFi, cut WiFi to 5g,  buffer runs out,  video stops never resumes, back out app is unresponsive, close app,  reopen get a spinning wheel until it goes back to server selection, try to connect and still fails until I go to the app settings force stop and reopen then connects on wan

Would be cool to get something like this and have the mobile apps do the SSID check

Another thought. Is your phone using a custom DNS provider?
