Hi Jellyfin Team,
First, thank you for creating and maintaining such an excellent open-source media server!
I would like to propose a new feature: the ability to create sub-profiles within a single user account, similar to the profile system on platforms like Netflix.
Why this would be helpful:
- Family Usage: This feature would allow a single user (e.g., "John") to create multiple sub-profiles for individual family members (e.g., "John's Profile", "Kid's Profile"). Each sub-profile would retain its own:
- Watch history
- Favorites
- Continue Watching list
- Personalized viewing preferences (e.g., language, subtitle settings).
- Watch history
- Simpler Account Management: Instead of creating separate user accounts for each individual, sub-profiles would simplify account management while keeping everything under one parent account.
- Enhanced User Experience: Sub-profiles would offer a more personalized experience for each family member while keeping the interface user-friendly.
- Allow sub-profiles to inherit permissions from the main account (e.g., content restrictions).
- Provide an easy way to switch between profiles without requiring additional passwords.
- Enable individual watch histories, favorites, and playback progress for each sub-profile.
Thank you for considering this suggestion, and I’d love to hear feedback from the community and team!
Best regards,
Noam
