Been using Jellyfin x other software on an Ubuntu home server for quite a while. Lately I notice that, with some movies, there's an ffmpeg process which throws the CPU usage to 100%, also making the movies stutter and load slowly. Is there any way to fix this?

It is transcoding and you aren't setup for hardware accelerated transcoding. Follow the link that Venson posted.

My CPU is an old i5 3470 (Ivy Bridge) which, from the wiki page of Intel Quick Sync Video, only fully supports MPEG-2 & AVC.
    What should I do?

    see https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/admini...-selection

3rd gen is 4 generations below the recommended 7th gen

one side or the other has to be capable of decoding these files, if you want to keep the server in place then you will need a client that is capable of direct playback

if you want to change neither device then you will have the long task of pre-encoding all the files to a compatible format beforehand

What motherboard do you have or, entre server hardware?
I would recommend either a CPU upgrade or entire server upgrade, to be able to transcode, which may be nessesary if a client dosent wuppor things and the transcoding quality would probably be much better then if you start converting your entire movie database...
