    Hi there,

I have activated folder view. Some of my folders with music are recognized as Albums and some other not and I cannot see any music even if they have inside. Is this related with metadata? Have they to follow some special structure? I would like to now until what circumstances music is recognized and shown.

    Thanks a lot.

I don't think this is related to metadata. I've only see folder view work reliably with video libraries. I set up folder view in my test instance and can't get music to appear to play in most folders.

Why don't you think it is related to metadata? Has your music metadata?

Cause I can see some folders with content and some other without, and the folder with contents seems to be those which really are albums (and I cannot see those who are mixed songs). That's why I thought it was related with those folders with the same metadata, or named similar to its metadata... cause I have made test and cannot find any pattern or kind of behaviour. So I thought that maybe someone here knows if it is documented anywhere or simply anyone knows how it was coded to behave.

    Thanks alot.

In fact, in folder list what you can see are the folder names stores as metadata, not the actual folder names in filesystem...

My music library conforms pretty tightly with our documentation, including folder structure and metadata tags, and I still have the same issue as you.

You can check our github for an existing issue that matches this. If one doesn't exist, submit one.

    Thanks for your help.

I will report this as a bug, but I would like to create a documentation compliant library as yours before. I have found this on the documentation:

    https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/music

It would be great if you share with me any other docs with more info I should see.

Besides this, this feature should show any music file, no matter what metadata it has or how it is named. Is what I expect from a folder view, to ignore any other semantic considerations and just show the filesystem itself.

    Thanks!

That is the documentation I was talking about.

Another thing you can do is run your music library through Musicbrainz's Picard app to ensure it is properly tagged. I made a copy of my music library before doing so, just in case I didn't like the result.

If you do use Picard to tag your music, ensure you change the Picard settings to always use your preferred language for metadata. Otherwise it will use the artist's original language. As in Japanese artists will get Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana metadata instead of English transliterated metadata.
