As the title says, I am having an issue with the default audio language defaulting to anything but English only when using the Android TV Jellyfin app. If I watch on mobile, desktop app (Windows) or in a web browser the default language is always correct (English). I have set the setting to always pick English audio tracks in the Jellyfin settings but it appears the Android TV app just ignores this?

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong and how I can fix it? I recently moved away from Plex, however I never had this issue on Plex.

Any advice or help will be appreciated, thank you everyone in advance.

I have attached a screenshot of my setting in Jellyfin.

There are device specific settings, user specific settings, and server/global settings. That setting in the screenshot is a device specific setting and won't be picked up by other devices. I'm not at home to double check, but I don't recall an equivalent setting in the Android TV app.

If thats the case then that might explain my issue, I don't suppose you know if and when it'll be implemented into the Android TV app... Do you?

I am having a similar issue. My live TV is provided by UK Freesat. The first audio track on most streams is a narration track with no language tag. The 2nd track is the regular audio with the English Language tag. I would have expected with preferred audio set to English and Play default audio track regardless of language unticked it would play the English tagged regular track, but it always plays the track with narration. I also have this issue on the Windows desktop app, and the Exoplayer on Android

On the Windows desktop player, you can clearly see there are 2 x audio streams, but I cannot see any way to select the other stream.

At least this client allows direct streaming.  I cannot find any way to stop the android phone app from transcoding the stream, and it does this with just the first audio stream.

I encountered this issue today. Video had a default soundtrack in Portuguese, and also an English track. If I selected the English track in the Android TV Jellyfin app it still played Portuguese. Checked on my PC and the English track worked. Went back to the Android TV Jellyfin app and in settings -  advanced playback preferences I unchecked bitstream dolby digital audio. English now works although the audio is now direct streaming rather than direct playing.
