Google TV playback error

hello,

we have playback issues (blackscreen with error popup until player crashes completly instead of playback of file) on our google tv devices with app player (integregrated in TV and external player) with some media files. These files work great on windows machines and android devices but not on our two Google-TV devices.

Our jellyfin server:
- Windows 11 pro 24H2
- Server-Version/Web-Version/ Build-Version: 10.10.5
- Intel integrated GPU 630 for transcoding

All player apps are up to the latest version updated automatically.

I have attached two logs as example of different types (anime and one old series). We have not yet encountered a current series that makes any issues. It seems these files are encoded in some special way which prevents us from watching them.

I tried to follow the guide, but if I missed something please ask.

Uncheck "Enable Intel Low-Power HEVC hardware encoder". Your iGPU does not support HEVC low power encoding. Only H264.

this helped me with my problem! Now we can watch these files as well. Thank you very much for the quick answer!

As my curiosity was spiked I looked into the iGPU (as it is mentioned in many guides and is apparently widely used by many) and it seems it supports HEVC up to a certain color depth (HEVC (H.265) 10 bit 4:2:0 but above you need really current gen CPU (Alder lake) for transcoding.

As I took a careful look at CPU usage and power consumption there is only one follow up question left for me:

Will it now never use the iGPU for HEVC or only in these rare high color depth cases? Or only if the player cannot decode it on his own?

As I try to go for h265 files whereever I can this would be really important to know to limit the power use in our household.

The box we unchecked, "Enable Intel Low-Power HEVC hardware encoder", does not disable HEVC encoding. Just runs HEVC in a "standard" profile instead of a "low power" profile. The difference in power consumption is minimal, but unavoidable anyway since your iGPU doesn't support low power encoding for HEVC.

There is a separate check box, "Allow encoding in HEVC format", that enables/disables HEVC encoding altogether.

HEVC 10-bit, 4:2:0 chrome subsampling, is not rare. It is the format that nearly all HDR content uses. And a lot of SDR content as well.

Your GPU does support decoding it, which you enable by checking "HEVC 10-bit".
