I have my old PC setup with a GTX 1060 6GB card currently.

My sister's PC is needing some upgrading and has my even older GTX 660 card in it. She's not a gamer or anything but, that's getting pretty old.

A local (I'm somewhat remote so local is rare) has a GTX 1660-Super cheap locally and I wanted to grab that.

My question is though, a GTX 1660-Super is better than my GTX 1060 for gaming, but, for Jellyfin/Video?

Is there any advantage to grabbing the GTX 1660-Super for myself? or for video, they about the same for performance so give her the better card (1660)?

Is there anything cheap to look at instead? Maybe poor gaming performance but great video? Server I'm still making will be attached directly to my TV, and occasionally stream to the living room, but also looking at remote access for my two nieces to be able to access from where they live.

The 1660 technically has a slightly better encoder/decoder, but not in a meaningful way. If that makes sense.

If I had to choose what happens, the Jellyfin server would get the 1060 and the gaming PC would get the 1660.

If you need a GPU just for Jellyfin, it is hard to beat Intel Arc GPUs. The A380 and A310 can be had for pretty cheap. But availability is not great outside North America.

I recall (I think you) mentioning the A380/A310... been checking on occasion but no luck here in Ontario (CAN).

so, basically on paper the 1660 is better but end-user would never notice a difference. Probably give her the better card then. Grinning-face

Checking now and ya, closest ARC for sale is a 380, for $170CAD... 2-3h away.

The 1660-S is about $50CAD and 15min away.

If the ARC were closer, I'd give my sister my GTX1060, put that $50 towards the ARC instead but the hours of driving kinda kill that option. Slightly-frowning-face
