    Hi folks,

I'm running an Apple Silicone machine as a Jellyfin server and I don't seem to be able to play or even detect some media?

    My current settings are:
    • Hardware Acceleration: Apple VideoToolBox
    • Enable hardware decoding for: H264, HEVC and HEVC 10bit
    • Hardware encoding options: Enable hardware encoding + Allow enconding in HEVC format

Atm I have two videos, both HEVC on .mkv containers, where one of them show up in the library but it's unplayable and the other isn't event detected in the library. In the meantime, other HEVC .mkv videos are detected and work.

Am I running the wrong settings? Are these files incompatible? Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!

    Server: macOS 14.4
    Version: 10.8.13
    Operating System: Darwin
    Architecture: X64

Does Jellyfin have permissions to read the files/folders? Can you share your Jellyfin and ffmpeg logs with us via sourcebin or pastebin?

All the files in this log that you played are MP4's. Can you replicate the issue with the MKVs you are having problems with and then share that fresh log with us?

I've been playing files in .mkv though so not sure why they are not appearing in the log?

Also, my main issue is that the files are not even appearing so I wouldn't expect for them to appear in the ffmpeg log? I could be wrong..

Are there any other logs other than the ones from the 'Logs' section in the Advanced setting I could get? If so, could you please tell me where to find them?

If they are just not being added to Jellyfin, 90% of the time this is a permissions issue or Jellyfin was unable to identify it due to the file/folder name, etc.

Bingo! So, I didn't had to change the file name or anything, but had to create a folder to move the file to for it to be recognised.

Looks like Jellyfin is unable of seeing files that are located in the root folder of the library. I hope this gets addressed at some point as sometimes things are added directly as a file opposite to a folder.

Thanks again for the help! Smiling-face

Movies/shows in the root library directory is not supported. They must be in folders.
