I just want to understand, why transcodung is needed for DVDSUBS. I changed all settings that Transcoding won't be used because my hardware is only a Raspi4. But some Movies aren't playing because of Subs. So I disabled Subs and then it works. I've seen that DVDSubs are the problem.
    With Kodi, VLC it works.

Why does jellyfin has a problem with direct play and DVDSUBS?

DVDSUBs are image based and a lot of video players don't support rendering them. Kodi and VLC do. Jellyfin relies on the device's internal player most of the time (Jellyfin Media Player is the exception) and because of that device compatibility for subtitles and codecs varies.

Kodi has Jellyfin plugins, Jellycon and Jellyfin for Kodi, so that you can use Kodi on your clients that support it to avoid transcoding.

    Thanks for the great explanation.

Actually, U would like to use jellyfin direct play because it's all integrated. No switching to other apps and everything are saved like continue movie etc.

Why does Jellyfin not develope the intefrated player im the app on Android that everything can be played like a Kodi app?

The integrated player in our Android app is exoplayer, developed by Google.

If you have an Android app, you should check out Findroid. It has the option to use MPV as the player and should support more subtitle types.

The Jellyfin development team are all part time volunteers. Making our own player would require a very particular expertise and extensive development time that a small FOSS project just doesn't have.
