Hardware acceleration (server). Better card = better performance?

Will the performance and/or quality improve if I install a more powerful graphics card?

    Hi@all,

My Jellyfin is running in an Ubuntu server VM running on a proxmox. Since I only use nVIDIA graphics in my systems I would like to realize the hardware acceleration with nVIDIA as well. I want to rip my bluerays in H.264 or H.265. There I am still experimenting. To test the passing of the graphics card into the VM and to install the nVIDIA driver in the VM, I first installed an older Quadro P620. This should now be replaced by a more powerful card.

Does it bring advantages for the decoding of the films on the server if I install a card with more performance?

E.g. a Quadro RTX 4000 SFF ADA 20GB GDDR6 ? Or is there no advantage compared to a Quadro RTX 4000?

    with best

    Hey @pixel24

For jellyfin, scaling wide is better then scaling up with GPUs. That means a GPU that can handle more transcode streams in parallel with atleast the playback framerate (plus a bit extra) will be everything you need. Just because you GPU does transcode it faster, will not allow you to "watch faster". For Jellyfin its a bit more of a either it can do it or don't story. If your system works now just fine, you will not get any tangible benefits from upgrading your GPU.
    typos are finders, keepers.
