i have many bits of old hardware lying around.
pi3
pi4 8gb
Fx9590
I5-8400
I3-3220
WD My Cloud Ex first gen
im torn between using the I3 or I5 for Jellyfin. Either one will be on a headless debian 12 server pulling video files from the WD Cloud NAS.
I will have some travel on the road and my phone service includes 5g but it often switches to 4g LTE.
Im worried about transcoding due to mobile bandwidth. will the i3 be enough? should i stick with i5 just incase? the i5 is more compatible with file transcoding according to wiki. but how much would i really run into that?
the overall project is trying to host a torrent box with qbittorrent, pi hole for home dns, and if possible a modded minecraft server with 400 plus mods(ATM9) which could benifit from the i5 or the 9590. Im leaning for 9590 for minecraft because it has 32gb ram and i may attempt to run a ram disk to speed up the server loading and ticking.
i tried the pi4 for a jellyfin server but had terrible lag on the tv at home on lan.
i had all these on the FX9590 but screwed up file perms and had to nuke the entire thing. so using all these boxes is for redundancy.
any advice would be great.
