Hi, I've been having stuttering / unplayable media with my current setup (more often with x265 but now with x264 too, not 100% sure).
Hoping for some recommendations to fix that.

    Current setup: (Alienware alpha)
    Intel Core i3-4130T Dual-Core processor (3M Cache, 2.9GHz)
GeForce 860 equivalent (?) (1st gen maxwell architecture) -- hardware acceleration fails when I try.
    upgraded 8TB sdd
    ethernet connection to router

TV in separate room (samsung from 2022)
chromecast 4th gen with Jellyfin app connected via wifi

Maybe i just need to have lower quality media?
Ideally, i would keep my media on that alienware above, but i do have a separate gaming computer that i could use.

    Ryzen 7 7700
    Radeon 6800 xt
    1 TB ssd

    thank you!

I'm seeing mixed messages about whether that Nvidia GPU has encoding/decoding or not. The Intel 4130T definitely does have encoding/decoding support, but it has pretty basic codec support and would require you using VAAPI instead of Intel Quick Sync.

Without your logs we can't say for certain what is going on. If you could share your full jellyfin logs via privatebin.net, we can figure out exactly what is going on.

Looks like I could upgrade to the intel i7 4790S chip with integrated graphics (HD 4600).
Would this upgrade potentially fix my issues?
If not, probably better to just make a new computer at that point haha.

No. There is no meaningful benefit to upgrading to that chip. They both have the same capabilities in terms of encoding.

According to the log you are software encoding at the moment. Can you share screenshots of Dashboard > Playback > Transcoding?

    Thank you again!

i think my GPU is one of the top (worst) ones on this list
    https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encod...matrix-new
    I don't think it supports HEVC / 265.

I just tried and failed with hardware decoding enabled, checking H264, with/without HEVC, with/without NDEC.

Switch to VAAPI and try again. Check H264, VP8, VC1, and MPEG2.

    thanks for the response!
I tried VAAPI with those boxes checked.

Also, try enabling this option and post a new log.
    Hardware encoding options
    Enable hardware encoding

Make sure both of these are unticked. As you might only be able to encode in X264.
    Encoding format options
    Allow encoding in HEVC format
    Allow encoding in AV1 format

    Thank you so much!

I don't think it's working -- but not exactly sure how to sort out.

I have 3 versions of the same content:
    1080p AV1 = doesn't work
    different 1080p AV1 = doesn't work
    720p H264 = doesn't work -- this should work right?
408p H264 = does work, but bad image quality lol

    just confirming my settings:

    Thank you!
