I have to admit I was completely wrong and I owe the author of this plug-in an apology.
This morning I tried the plug-in and it seems pretty solid and It's very useful. Definitively the SmartPlaylist tool that Jellyfin was missing.

The only drawback is that only an admin user with access to the config/plug-in page can use the plug-in and create/modify the playlists.

It would be nice also an export/import function to migrate the configuration of each SmartPlaylist from an istance of Jellyfin to another or to have a backup.

    No worries!

I like the export/import idea. You could simply grab the .json files from /data/smartplaylists and upload them in another Jellyfin instance where SmartPlaylist is installed. But having an export/import function would definitely make it easier. I'll look into adding this.

And then it's in a new playlists section and can't be used as rules for a collection, only added within a collection, so it's not the solution I was hoping for. But seeing these levels of automation inside JF is promising. Smart Playlists make my Kodi sing.

If you're having issues where smart playlists aren't populated correctly, please create an issue in Github and I'll take a look at it: https://github.com/jyourstone/jellyfin-s...gin/issues
If it's a specific feature you need, I could look into adding that as well.

I created a playlist to have movies, shows and music but it only brought in movies, this was using 2 values tag and title. Not a fan of how JF displays the smartplaylist as just a playlist in list form. Was hoping to get these sorts of rules available for collections (like my wish list in my signature).
    JF Wish List:
    IMDb Top250 metadata
    Collection content rules: Library-Title/Sorttitle/Tag/Director/Filename/Contains
    Collection organized by Library
    Collections scanned to editable XML
    Media info show added Collection
Soundtrack auto link to movie by title/sort/Manual

Lack of dynamic playlists is the only thing that keeps me hanging on to Plex.
I cobbled together a few python scripts that make custom Playlists based on my specifications; but it would be neat to go completely hands-off.
Jellyfin is perfect for my use-case otherwise.

The ease of use of SmartPlaylists in the Kodi environment allowed my to create some in-depth menu options to view award winning films by award and both year and category. There's not way to do that in Jellyfin that I am aware of outside of collections and a ton of manual entry. Ain't nobody got time for that! I love the collections layout and concept but it's lack of any dynamic curation control really hinders it. Now that I'm reorganizing my storage (again) collections end up mostly broken.

Sorry for the collections derail in this thread. Though still didn't get anything but movies to populate my test playlist.

Could you post a screenshot of what the rules in this smart playlist look like? You can PM me as well if you prefer.
I haven't heard of this issue before so I'm interested in seeing if this is indeed a bug in specific conditions that needs to be fixed.

The only 2 rules are "Name contains" Star Wars and "tag contains" Star Wars.

I though that would bring in all movies, TV shows and albums as the playlist is set up for all those libraries.

Jsut tested a little, removed the Name rule and added a tag to a TV show and that brought that one show in.

Overall using what is essentially a music setlist feature isn't my hope for this ability. But it's cool to see someone working on it.

Also noticed if you add/change  something to the library the playlist doesn't automatically find these new entries without a refresh. So another function that's not as simplified as I am used to in Kodi. Not a complaint, just observation of the current function.

Ok thanks, it sounds like the media files aren't properly tagged in that case. But to know for certain, I would need the debug logs.

It's true that smart playlists are only refreshed once per hour by default. It's something I have in the roadmap, to automatically update smart playlists on library changes.

Sorry to hear that this plugin doesn't fulfill your request, I hope you find what you are looking for!
