Hi all,
I've been a Jellyfin user for well over a year and there's just so much to love about it, so firstly huge well done to the team for all the effort they put in. I'm looking to start learning programming soon, so I can at least try help give back something.
I have a question though, not sure if it's my Jellyfin setup or not. Reason I noticed it was because of Emby.
So I downloaded Emby the other night to give it a try, there are a few things I really liked, refreshed interface and good app support, but a lot I didn't, in some ways, the same interface refresh removed basic functions like the alphabet list under most of the filters in the library and search button, auto collections didn't work too well either.
The main thing really for me, is the instant playback and scrubbing. I have been debating to move to Emby, but honestly want to stick with Jellyfin as there's just so much that works great and it's how I like it, so hoping it's something I've done wrong that can be easily fixed.
On Jellyfin, using the LG App or Samsung App or Firefox, if I start a movie 720, 1080, 4k, can take a good few seconds for it to load 4 -5 seconds and sometimes, can freeze for a second or two like it's trying to catch up, when I drag along the bar to a point further down the line, it takes a good few seconds 5 - 7 seconds to start playing from that point. Really didn't think much of this as I thought it was a network issue, had some minor issues my end, until I tried Emby.
When I popped Emby into an LXC container on Proxmox, similar to where my Jellyfin is and pointed to the same media, it's instant. I mean, I start and not even a second and it loads, then when I scrub along, plays instant. It works in everything without issue. But it appears Jellyfin, has issues transcoding as fast as emby.
I have a NAS setup with NFS, Jellyfin is running on the same Proxmox server as the NAS, Emby is on another machine and running smoothly. Almost all the settings for what I can see are the same. It appears Transcoding is the issue, it's not doing it fast enough. Is there something I can do to improve this?
Any advice would be so helpful.
