    Hello,

I recently started using Jellyfin and my goal is to stream BDMVs without converting them to MKVs.
I'm pleased to see that Jellyfin does in fact scan whatever I throw at it under the Season directory of a show and extracts all the files from the BDMV/STREAM directory.

The problem with this is that it displays both the episodes and the extra BD stuff, warnings, ads, etc. I'm not expecting some wizardry to magically hide and sort those, I'm fine with manually managing the thing and setting the metadata to correct what are extras, what are episodes and whatnot, but unfortunately I don't really have a way to "hide" all the unnecessary BD tracks such as ads; this means that at the end of the day I end up with a season of a show having 50+ episodes, when in reality it's about 12.

    Is this already doable?
(I understand that it's a "weird" feature, and if it doesn't exist it would probably make sense to invest a bit more time into sorting out BDMVs (excluding tracks shorter than 2 min like MakeMKV does) rather than "patching up" the thing with an exclude episode feature.

    Thanks in advance!

AFAIK, Jellyfin does not have the functions you are describing.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

I would imagine that would be the case, it's a very specific usage and it's a work around more than anything.

What I can't wrap my head around though is the following (though, probably out of scope for this very specific thread) there is this merge pull request on GitHub https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/pull/9254 which includes a commit titled "Fix BD and DVD folder recognition for tv episodes" so what I don't get is... is Jellyfin supposed to already be able to recognize the episodes of BDMVs correctly?

Hi, this is actually possible if you really want to edit metadata for each extra and use a workaround. You can use the tags and parental controls to accomplish it.

    1) Go to the edit metadata screen for each extra.
    2) Add whatever tag you want to use to identify them.
    3) Go to parental controls for the user(s) they should be hidden for.
    4) Add the tag under the "Block items with tags" section.

Tedious if you have a lot of extras to hide, but simple and it works. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, yup, this might work, but I decided that I'll try to investigate this a bit further and see if I'm able to expand on this functionality and make a PR.
I think that I found a somewhat safe way to determine (at least for the 3 or 4 shows BlueRays that I tried) to identity episodes in the correct order (or at the very least, how to exclude what we know is definitely Junk).

This might not be a safe way of doing it and I do not know anything about the Jellyfin code base, but I'm thinking of trying to see if I can make this a bit better, maybe during the winter vacations.
