Hello, very high level basic question, I've never owned a TV before and recently bought a Philips Google TV TA1.

I recently setup a home server running proxmox and then setup jellyfin running on one of the VMs using Ubuntu 24.04 server edition.  From my laptop I'm able to see the Jellyfin dash at 192.168.0.xxx:8086

How do I use this with my TV? I can't tell if most people are just using their laptops to navigate to 192.168.0.xxx:8086, selecting media, and chromecasting to the TV, or if you can setup your TV somehow to show the Jellyfin dash? Is it possible to connect Jellyfin as a "source" somehow so I can then use the TV remote "source" to open Jellyfin dash and use the TV remote to browse Jellyfin media?

I did see there is a Google TV app called Jellyfin, but it seems it's not available for Philips Google TV TA1 unfortunately... is this my missing piece?

Also, if it seems I'm missing something here, like I'm supposed to use another service for browsing via TV, please let me know.

Quite the high level post, so thank you for any help!

You would primarily use the Android TV app (which you say isn't available for your TV).

You can also buy something like a Nvidia Shield to use Jellyfin and have it hooked to your TV.
You do also have the option of just using your laptop (or any other PC) and hooking it up to your TV with HDMI just to mirror its screen onto the display.

A fire Tv stick from Amazon is a cheap way. In the UK they are on offer at the moment.

I use an LG TV with the Jellyfin app for LG, mostly because it's just a wrapper for the web client and that allows me to use a plugin such as intro skipper. That said, for your case you will need something like a roku or firestick. Obviously you can also go for the NVIDIA Shield Pro or similar, which is going to have way better format support as a client, but it costs significantly more; depending on your library and budget, you should select a client that adjusts best to your particular situation.

When you looked for Jellyfin in the play store, was the "Jellyfin" app unavailable? Because there are two listings. "Jellyfin for Android" and "Jellyfin for Android TV".

Your TV is Android 12. I don't see why it wouldn't be available for your TV.

Thanks! This was my problem, I was actually being lazy and on my laptop, opened the play store and installed Jellyfin on my phone, and it was there that Google said "unavailable for this device".

After opening the store on the TV and searching Jellyfin I found it and it worked perfectly.
