Organizing Anime Libaries

I'm quite new to Jellyfin and have been getting a lot of mixed results from researching about what metadata providers to use for my Anime Shows Library and an anime movies library. Looking through the reddit, a lot of people were saying that anidb was bad, but is that still the case, and how should I go about naming my files according to the ordering of metadata for my anime libraries. Also, I have Attack on Titan, which has OADs, so how do I go about organizing them into my library with the best metadata providers. Plus, is there a way to show fillers in the Jellyfin library, since I have some anime like Naruto, which are loaded with filler episodes I don't want to watch.

It depends on how you want your Anime to be organized.  Sources like AniDB tend to treat seasons of a show as separate shows, entirely.  If that is ok with you, AniDB is a good metadata source.  If you want all the seasons of a show to be under one listing, stick with TMDB.  But you can still use AniDB as an image provider.

As for OADs/OAVs, it depends on whether TMDB considers it a "special" of that show or as a separate listing (often a movie in this case).  Depending on how TMDB categorizes that OAD/OAV determines how you treat it.  If it is part of the same show, the special will show up under the show's "specials" season.

   

If it is a special, you would create a "specials" folder in the show's folder and name the file "s00e##".  "s00" being the syntax in Jellyfin for a special, and the episode number depending on what episode number TMDB gives a special.

Some OADs/OAVs are treated as movies.  The TMDB URL will have "tv" or "movie" in it, indicating what kind of library you should put the OAD/OAV in.

   

I'm not aware of a way for Jellyfin to identify filler episodes.

You can enable multiple metadata sources and you can sort them based on what priority you want them to apply for a library.

From my understanding of all the current anime plugins in Jellyfin, AniDB has the best metadata for episodes, while AniList has more complete pictures/covers for things like people and actors. tmbd has more backdrops than the anime plugins too.

Just name your anime according to how Jellyfin expects in the documentation and how they're sorted your main metadata source for the library.

You would organize them how your main metadata source has them listed.

AniDB usually has specials listed after the episodes at the bottom of the anime page.

Unless a metadata source has this info in the titles of the episodes, Jellyfin can't do this automatically. You'll need to do it manually by hand.

Or simply just don't add the filler episodes to your library. Or just skip them when they play.

If I delete the episodes that I don't want it just doesn't detect all of my episodes properly, is there any other way to deal with unwanted fillers, maybe without removing them, but if needed by removing them.

That shouldn't be happening. Are your files named how Jellyfin expects them?
