    Hello,

I am not sure if I am simply barking up the wrong tree, but any and all offered insight is appreciated.

I do not have a spare computer hanging around, so I have installed jellyfin on my primary computer, and intend to run it as needed for now, ie, when i want to share our movies with screens around the house, I will start the server on my primary machine, and then shut it down when we stop hosting in the house. This is not being shared beyond our firewall.

I installed jellyfin as root, and all resources within /opt/jellyfin/ have user:group set to root:root.

Now, when I am attempting to operate the server, I am logged in as myself, steve. I think this is preventing me from making a library appropriately, as my Staging folder is in my home directlry, and also belongs to steve:steve. When I enter the path (which I have triple checked against my terminal, jellyfin reports back that this is a bad path. So, permissions problem?

So, Am I just sunk here, and need to get another dedicated system for this to work, or, can I/should I change my ownership on jellyfin resources to steve:steve?

Making progress, but since I shaved my head again last week, I have no more hair to pull or fall out right now.

This is fascinating, and I am reviewing the documentation as thoroughly as I know how, but I am missing details, I think.

TIA, for any and all kind replies.
