    Hello,
I recently installed Jellyfin onto my server to stream my movies to my devices, I am very happy with how it works.
It got me wondering if its possible to display a library of arbitrary file types, like .exe with preview images and the likes. I'm particularly interested in moving my entire game ROM library onto the server and being able to downloading individual games via Jellyfin.

I tried a quick search but couldn't come up with what I was looking for.
Is this possible on Jellyfin? I would like to have all of my content in one place rather than using multiple services.

    Thanks

    see response here https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/commen...type_games

also, sounds like a security risk involving executables imo

Maybe I am misunderstanding here, but I'm not trying to stream access(?) to the files. Rather I want a point of access with custom images and description, and offer a direct download.
The way I am imagining it is downloading files from my server via Jellyfin, therefore having all of my media accessible in a single neat package.

So far Jellyfin has given me the simplest experience in terms of sharing media and if possible I would like to implement all of my media into it.
Considering my limited experience, I might be looking at Jellyfin entirely wrong, but it would be an amazing solution for me if this could work

No.  No support for it now, and no interest in implementing such a thing

Why not a regular web server?
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

I wouldn't be so categorical as to say that there is 'no interest' in implementing such a feature. In fact, I had the exact same idea and I doubt we are the only ones!

I see the appeal of wanting to use Jellyfin as a all-in-one web server, but I just can't see the current Jellyfin GUI lending itself well to be a web server.

The current stock GUI seems too big and convoluted for when you want to search through multiple files as you would in a file server.
In my opinion, if Jellyfin ever got anything close to what is being asked for here, some GUI changes would have to be made to make using it as a web server less painful.

McCarlton means that the Jellyfin devs have no interest in making this happen.  It is massively out of scope for what Jellyfin is, a media streaming server.  This would require a massive rework of the UI and the server code.

Jellyfin just isn't designed for this task.

    Actually, it kind of works!
I've just created a library for arbitrary files under the 'Films' category. Each folder contains a single file, and I've assigned a cover to each one. That’s all there is to it. The download links are also functional. Of course, Jellyfin isn’t fetching the metadata or anything, but for the sake of having a cover and a link, it’s perfect.
