Is there a way to make a hyperlink to a file get recognized as a movie?

I set up my library and I have one folder for "Movies" that points to a Movie folder on my hard drive and one file for "Christmas Movies" that points to a Christmas Movie folder on my hard drive. There are a few movies (like Home Alone) that I want to appear in both libraries. So far I tried to create a hyperlink to the movie file and move that to the other folder but it doesn't get picked up in Jellyfin. Then I tried looking for a way to include a path to a specific movie file in the library but I only see a way to point to whole folders in Jellyfin. Ideally I want to avoid having two copies of the file taking up room on my hard drive.

It sounds like you have a flat folder structure. As in all your movies are simply in the "Movies" folder. Ideally, each movie should be in their own folder within the library folder. This is primarily so you can have things like extras and trailers together with the movie.

Once you've done that, THEN you can symlink the Home Alone folder in the other library you want it in. Jellyfin should follow symlinks for folders.

I tried doing this with one movie file and the linked file is not getting picked up by Jellyfin. I first tried just creating a shortcut to the movie's folder and moving it to the other directory. Then I googled about symbolic links and tried making one with the command prompt using mklink -D. Is there a trick I'm missing?

From what I am reading, only admins are able to follow the link when using mklink /d. You'd have to use mklink /j (junctions), which does allow non-admin users to use the link.
