Just to preface this-I am a novice in this area so thank you in advance!

A quick rundown of the network devices.

Modem/Router from Spectrum with wifi capabilities. A machine running Windows 10, a machine running Lubuntu. Wife, kids, my laptops, phones etc.

I set up Jellyfin server, waded through the permissions, got my server online and can access it from my home network from client devices. I have the server installed on Lubuntu, a client on Lubuntu, a client on iOS, Android and Windows. All accessible from clients. Good to go there.

I set up a Tailscale account and installed it on the Lubuntu machine and an iOS device. Got it connected outside of home network and seems to be running well.

The problem is... it was so easy that it makes me wonder how secure it really is.

Can anyone tell me if this seems like a secure situatino for my network?

    Thank you!

Nothing wrong with this at all! A properly configured vpn is one of the most secure ways to handle remote access. Really the only complication can be getting access to devices that don’t support vpns (some TVs).

    Thank you very much!

And just to confirm, if for some reason there was an intrusion the only machines that could be effected are the ones running Tailscale correcr?

That is not correct. You can, and should, further lock down access using ACL policies that can be set up in the tailscale admin panel.
