So I’m trying to run  jellyfin on my proxmox sever through Ubuntu and have it directed to my external hard disk…here is the directory, here it is on my shared network(works fine) but jellyfin can’t find the path

If anybody could help any commands for info query you want me to run to give you more information and resolve let me know, I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong and learn from it!

I am assuming you let Ubuntu auto mount the drive. If so, the permissions it sets would prevent the jellyfin user from accessing it. Manually mount the USB drive via /etc/fstab. Then you can set the permissions to whatever you want.

Whats weird is it wont let me make that directory but it lets me make a jellyfin directory under home, I'm gonna see if I can mount my harddisk there

Is your media in your home directory. Just no. Put your media somewhere not your home. Your home is your home and no other user should ever have access to it. If you have files that you need to frequently make available to other users, you move it somewhere else. The most common place is /mnt or /media and ten creating a subdirectory in there.

okay, I'm gonna do a quick fresh install of ubuntu and snapshot it and get back to you. I think I fiddled with too much. I'll disable automount to boot. I might just need help with the directory path configuration so I'll get back to ya
