    Hi All,
I've been using Jellyfin on my sailboat for a while now. But unfortunately i'm not able to use it on my Chromecast whenever i get out of range with the lte towers when i'm sailing offshore.. Pretty anoying that Chromecast needs an internet connection even when casting only local media...

Anybody knows an alternative to the Chromecast that works without an internet connection. Please note that i do have a (lte) router.

    many thanks

I'm assuming this is a "dumb" Chromecast. The older ones that don't run Android TV. If so, these reddit posts seem to confirm what you've already found out. I've directly linked the applicable response.

Your best option is probably to get an Android TV based Chromecast. I do not recommend Firesticks. I have two Chromecasts with Google TV and have been happy with them.

I have just finished setting up an offline Jellyfin server and client for a friend. The server is a Synology DS224+ and the client is a Firestick. I built the system, loaded the media and scanned the libraries at my place with internet access. I setup the Firestick, loaded the Jellyfin app and installed Launch on Boot app. The LoB app allows the Firestick to boot up and go right into Jellyfin, skipping the error message about no network.

So, at my friend’s place, have the Synology, Firestick and a router with USB port, so I can tether a cell phone if I need internet in a pinch. Works perfectly. He’ll have to bring the Synology to my place to update content, but that’s only every 3-6 months.
