Hello, after as much reading and troubleshooting as I can handle, I'm hoping for some help. I am trying to migrate from plex to jellyfin and am unsure if it will suit my needs, if I can even get it to work locally. I use plex to access my library on my smart tv and share it with a handful of friends who access it the same way. Is it even practical to use jellyfin the way I have been using plex? If not, feel free to let me know and ignore the rest of this post. I've read about remote users needing a vpn or other hoops to jump through which are not realistic for my friends, so I want to ask.
I would test it myself but I can't even get it working on my local network and none of the answers I've found online for similar situations have helped. I am pretty unfamiliar with networking technology and only know what I've read up on by myself setting up plex and a vpn. (I don't use the vpn with plex). If there's some obvious guide that I missed, please send a link, but I did try to find a solution myself for hours before posting.
Things I have tried:
-Remote connections are enabled
-Enabling all connections to 8096 in windows firewall (initially they were enabled on private and disabled on public, I tested enabling public but reverted after it didn't work)
-Restarting Server (after any settings changes)
-Restarting smart tv
-Set Bind to local network address to 0.0.0.0
Whether connecting from my smart tv, mobile browser, or mobile app, I immediately get "Unable to connect" Let me know if any additional info is helpful. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
