So maybe this is more of a question than a troubleshooting request (though I'd like that too if possible), but I've been having a lot of issues with casting to a Chromecast through Jellyfin since some months ago (around may or june I think it started, I think it's most likely when I upgraded from 10.8.x to 10.9.x) and I don't really see anyone else talking about these.
FYI, I have a 2nd gen Chromecast, and my setup consists of connecting it to an old dumb TV from the early 2010s through HDMI, and then casting to it through the Android Jellyfin app on my tablet.
So the problems I have noticed appearing since then:
1. Lots of transcoding issues. 1080p isn't supported anymore, Jellyfin now transcodes 1080p to an arbitrarily chosen lower resolution despite my Chromecast officially supporting 1080p. It cites something along the lines of "Video Resolution Not Supported", which is odd since prior 1080p has always worked just fine. Aside from that, a few years ago it seemed like Jellyfin could stream about nearly anything to my Chromecast, but even .mkv files now need to be remuxed, MPEG4 streams need to be transcoded, the 1080p issue I mentioned, etc. Another big issue is related to audio. I have a stereo setup so naturally 5.1 audio needs to be transcoded to 2.0 audio, but for some odd reason when Jellyfin does so, the stream always ends up freezing indefinitely at some specific point, and if I attempt to restart the stream it will always freeze at said point, nothing fixes it aside from transcoding the audio yourself before streaming, though this is both annoying and odd (since it's the exact same process Jellyfin performs under the hood).
2. The UI of the Chromecast interface changed. Synopsis text is now very small and hard to read, it used to be bigger in the past. It's also rather slow and unresponsive now, when in the past it would nearly immediately switch pages when opening a movie in the Android app, it now takes like at least 10 seconds in order to switch from one page to another.
3. Subtitles now have a black box behind the text, which wasn't there before.
So these issues have made using Jellyfin rather cumbersome since then and I hope they'll be fixed in the future, but I don't see anyone else ever talking about these... is this something on my end perhaps?
I'll also gladly provide you guys some logs if necessary, but I do notice that Jellyfin logs also seem more minimalist than in the past. Like in the past I could CTRL+F for "TranscodeReason" if I wanted to know why something was transcoding, but now it's nowhere to be found for some reason. I also couldn't find a single clue for the audio transcoding issue either.
So I'm just lost.
