    So I created a mpv.conf file in the location listed https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-med...e-location

    And populated it with
    alang=eng
    slang=eng
    subs-with-matching-audio=yes

    But these options keep getting overridden why I need to do this is cause Jellyfin's own client settings arent working correctly despite me selecting English, for both audio and subtitles I still get it playing some of my anime's in Japanese due to Jellyfin not  following best pratice regrading tracks flagging https://www.matroska.org/technical/notes.html this is increibly annoying and before someone asks it has nothing to do with the videos being incorrectly flagged or there metadata being wrong this is soley Jellyfin fucking up.

    Is there anyway to disable the inbuild settings and have the mpv.conf do what it should do and be the overriding factor or any other solution that isnt remuxing or alter the metadata of files simply cause Jellyfin is a mess.

    i see you did mpv config

    did you actually configure language preferences for your user account IN JELLYFIN?
    depending on client there may also be a flag to prefer Default tracks (mkv flags)
    as well a setting to set track based on previous selection

    I am using the Jellyfin Media Player like the title says and both for subtitles and audio I have ENGLISH selected, I also have the play default audio unticked.

    And the play based on previous is also unticked off.

    Hence why I am now trying to use mpv config since the Jellyfin client settings clearly arent doing what there meant to do but even that doesnt seem to be working as those settings seem to be getting overridden by the busted client settings.

    you didn't state that in your initial post and my crystal ball is broken
    Hence
    i have to ask questions

    ...The 6th line of my initial post says "Jellyfin's own client settings arent working correctly despite me selecting English, for both audio and subtitles" beside the point really all the info is there now.
