This is incredibly depressing.  After finally finding a working solution to the broken Schedules Direct situation after 18 months, I now find that Jellyfin just flat out refuses to play anything I record from HDHomerun and won't even try to transcode it either.

I've got a Synology DS224+ running Jellyfin Server 10.10.7 and I'm also running the latest Fire TV app - jellyfin-androidtv 0.18.11.

In playback settings I've got hardware acceleration enabled with Intel QuickSync (QSV).   I've also got everything bar "AV1" in decoding checked and "Prefer OS Native DXVA or VA-API hardware decoders" unchecked as I read it on a random forum thread that it might have helped.

I've got "Enable Hardware encoding" checked with "Allow Encoding in HEVC Format".   Everything else is pretty much standard.

Whatever I record from the EPG using the HDHomerun as the source records in "576i MPEG2VIDEO SDR" with an audio track of "MP2 Stereo".

When I go to the Fire TV app and try to play something, I'll get a black screen and then "Player error encountered, will re-try" but it still never plays or tries to transcode.

The playback bitrate is currently set to 100mbits but I've tried setting it to 200 and as low as 10 and nothing makes any difference.

I've (hopefully) attached a log from when I tried to play one of the files which seems to indicate problems with the codec.   Jellyfin plays my other downloaded content just fine, just nothing I record.

Really hoping someone can help as this is my last throw of the dice with Jellyfin.

Just to follow up, I installed Emby just now to see if it played any of the recorded content from earlier and it plays everything just fine.

I don't want to use Emby though but I suspect I'll have to.

I don't know why I'm bothering here but there you go.

I decided to do a test earlier on and I set up Plex and enabled Live TV and the DVR Function to record off my usual source of a Linux-based satellite box.

Once the guide data had populated I did three test records, one of a HD channel and two SD channels.

The SD shows recorded in the same "MPEG2VIDEO SDR" as the HDHomerun did but when I tried to play them in Jellyfin, they played first time without an issue.

This, for me, implies the issue is with the HDHomerun device. It was purchased brand new from Amazon so I don't think it's "faulty", just that there's clearly some kind of codec issue that causes Jellyfin to fall over when it tries to play anything back.

It's funny, it's a week later with zero interest and this had dropped to page three.

About an hour after I originally posted the thread I actually decided to return the HDHomerun to Amazon because I knew there wouldn't be any response and I was right.
