Kodi replacement?

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the whole media server topic, jellyfin and its plugins seem to address. My current setup is kodi with some gigs of mp3s and I use it to listen to music. Currently, a raspberry pi is connected to speakers via bluetooth and I'm operating it through an app (Kore). But since I'm planning to go for different hardware, I'm wondering if jellyfin is able to do that, too? Or do I need a separate software to act as the actual player?

You could continue using Kodi if you wanted. There are plugins for Kodi to sync data to and from a Jellyfin server. You don't HAVE to use apps to access Jellyfin, as long as the device has a web browser. But there are apps (all unofficial) that are dedicated to music listening.

The idea is to move some raspberry pis into proxmox containers/vms and while looking around I didn't find a helper script for kodi. But there is one for jellyfin and that's why I think about switching.
But to sum it up. Jellyfin really is just a server/backend application, that provides data, but when it comes to playing it I need a client.

There is also https://www.navidrome.org/, maybe that's all I need.

Most default installations have the web client bundled with it. If you install Jellyfin via Linux package manager you can install the server without the default web client.

Navidrome is definitely better if you only intend to stream music.
