first of all, THANK YOU for implementing a WebOs client for my LGtv! i’ve been using it for over a year, and it’s really made it easy to watch my media NAS.

it’s always struggled with some subtitles, both from external files (either found online or downloaded from within WebOs client), and sometimes i had to turn subtitles on, then off, then on, to get them displayed.  lately i’m also having issues with subtitles embedded in the mkv container along with video.

i borrowed a roku, and the roku jellyfin client did display the subtitles, so it’s not a server-side issue.  but i prefer not to buy a roku since my tv runs apps.

i’d really appreciate it much if someone on the jellyfin team could look into this problem.

What kind of subtitles? Do you have transcoding setup for subtitle burn in? Can you share your full jellyfin server logs via pastebin?

I just learned this due to my own issues with the LG WebOS client forcing transcode due to subtitle incompatibility, but for some reason the LG built in media player (which the WebOS client seems to rely on) can only handle a couple of different subtitle formats, particularly .srt, .ass, and .ssa, either separate files or embedded inside your .mkv container.

If this happens, since the player cant play them directly, it will either force your server to transcode and burn them in if it can, or just wont play them. Since you cant see them, its very likely that the TV itself cant play the format embedded in the container.
