I have been trying to figure out how the collections in Jellyfin work and I seem to have created an issue for myself. I was creating all of my collections manually until I realized that I could use the TMDb Box Sets plugin to make them automatically! So I installed it and it deleted all of the collections I made manually, and then I tried getting it to work with no dice, so I uninstalled it and restarted Jellyfin. I then went and tried to recreate a few collections that I had previously, but realized after a few that they weren't showing up in the collections section. I then tried making a new one thinking it could be an issue with Jellyfin thinking that collection was still a thing, but even new collections won't show up.

I'm not really looking to get the plugin working, just hoping to fix the manually created collections not showing up.

    Info
    • Jellyfin 10.10.6 (Running on TrueNAS Scale as the official app)

    What I have tried
    • Uninstalling the plugin
    • Restarting Jellyfin
    • Rebooting the entire server
    • Locking and Unlocking the metadata of movies that I was adding to collections

Pastebin link to log for the day that I have been messing with all of it: https://pastebin.com/5XavLXrc

Not really sure what other information is needed but any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you run the TMDB Boxset job? The TMDB Boxset plugin runs on a schedule, by default once every 24 hours. Or go into the plugin UI and "Scan all libraries" from the plugin.

Yeah I tried running the job but it wouldn't do anything. I even restarted and made sure there were no other jobs running but it still wouldn't start or at least wouldn't show anything. I also left it installed for a few days before I tried uninstalling it and going back to doing manual ones.
I'm really not too worried about getting the plugin working as long as I can just get the collections to pop up. Although now that it is brought up, maybe after I installed the plugin it messed up a setting since I haven't been able to see any collections since I installed that plugin

Unless you increase the minimum movie count higher than the default of two, it should automatically make collections. As long as your movies have been properly identified. Also, TMDB needs to be a metadata provider for your movie library since the plugin uses TMDB IDs to match movies to a TMDB collection.

You are a smart dude. TMDB isn't set as a metadata provider, and it also isn't a selectable option. I am pretty sure it used to be selected but I am unable to pick it now. Any ideas on why that might be? I checked my plugins and I do have the TMDB plugin installed and shows status active. I will keep looking around in the meantime

You don't see "TheMovieDB"?  TheMovieDB (TMDB) cannot be removed.

Oh haha maybe I'm just a little ignorant. Yeah I see it and it is enabled for my movies library and for my TV shows library. I have just set it to the top and am going to try reinstalling the plugin to test

AWESOME. I got that enabled and tried the plugin again with still no dice. I then triple checked that the setting under "Display" was enabled to allow creations, and it was disabled. After enabling it and manually running a scan, I now have collections! For some reason they show up in the movies section and not the collections section, but it actually looks kinda clean that way so I can't complain. Thank you for all of your help!

Check if the TMDB ID field was populated for movies in your library.  That ID is needed for the boxset plugin to work.  Find a movie and click on the "..." context menu and "Edit Metadata" and scroll down.  If TheMovieDB was NOT enabled before, simply enabling it now won't retroactively back fill the TMDB IDs.  You would need to refresh the metadata and select "Search for missing metadata" from the drop down.  Once that completes verify that the TheMovieDB ID field was populated and re-run the job for the boxset plugin.

If it still fails, share your latest jellyfin log via privatebin.net
