Also, I would be careful with relying on negative season numbers. It seems like it's undefined behavior. Basically not supported by Jellyfin if a future version ever changes how this behaves.

Ah, so this is unintended behaviour?

It is a bit of an odd thing to be allowed but it does allow episodes to retrieve metadata from theMovieDB in whatever naming convention that needs, while also granting the ability to create a "Season Unknown" to be titled and sorted however you want.

Something like this having official support would be really useful! - To me at least. Especially in decimal form if not negative (0.X for Seasons before Season 1, X.5 for Seasons or Movies that live between officially numbered seasons - with X being the number of the previous season).

What an edge case we've found, but that's Doctor Who for you!

More like it happens to work like that by chance. Unless the developers behind Jellyfin specifically come out and state that they intentionally wrote the code to do that, I'm going to assume that it's just a coincidence that this is allowed.

Like there was no reason to write code to disable the usage of negative numbers because it was not anticipated that people would be using them.

Though I do agree with you that there should be ways to purposefully sort things like this. More control would be nice, though I don't know the difficulty in implementing these changes to Jellyfin.

It would be awesome if you could tell Jellyfin to display movies/specials to appear before or after seasons of any shows. That way, both could be in their respective libraries, but you could still have a series have all its media in one place in its chronological order. I know that you can do this with collections, but the collections will not sort things in order, and just group things depending if they're shows, movies, or other.
