Recently i found that mkv files with flac 48khz and embedded subtitles refuse to load, if at all. this is more noticeable with movies since large files.
My system

intel i3-13100f
16gb ram
gtx 1650
windows 10

what ive tried:
recreated the server on my main pc
intel i7-9700k
32gb ram
2060 super
windows 10

same issue

whats fixed the issue
soft fix, not 100% solution.
extracting the subtitles. while this works for some files, some files outright wont load the subtitles when selecting them.

Hard fix
i noticed that converting the flac audio to aac or a3c fixed the issue, also reducing the hz from 48khz to 44100 khz also fixed the issue.
this issue only occurs with mkv's that have flac and embedded subs. all other audio such as aac mkvs and embedded subs work fine no issues. Skull-and-crossbones

This issue occurs on Jellyfin media player for windows, and for chromecast.

Jellyfin Media Player produces logs. Replicate the problem and then post your JMP logs to pastebin. C:\Users\yourUser\appdata\local\jellyfinmediaplayer

That's an ffmpeg log, not a JMP log.

how do i gather logs from that if at all?

ive tried leaving the chromecast on and eventually the video will load, sometimes it will bypass the subtitles entirely and just not play them, sometimes it will; give the burning in subtitles notification. is there anyway to speed that up. this issue only ever happens with ASS/SSA subs that are embedded. if they are extracted and in same folder location works like a charm.

Had this same exact thing happen. On the newest Chromecast / Google TV player as of August 30th, 2024. I tried both FLAC 48 and 44.1 khz and neither work.

After seeing this not work on Chromecast, I tried on my Pixel 8 pro running Android 14, August 5, 2024 update. The regular Android app also has the same problem.

The video will load and just sit there and not play. I was able to try switching to a fallback AAC Stereo track which allowed the video to play after a few tries.

I tested playback on the Windows 11 App, version 1.11.1 and playback is fine both on 48 and 44.1khz. The server is running JF 10.9.10 in a Docker container.

The Android app on my phone is from July 6, 2024 : version 2.6.0

The Chromecast version is 0.17.4
