Like a good few, I've hit problems with Dolby Vision content causing black screen to show with no GUI and just audio. I'm not complaining about that. As I understand it, it requires a significant change to how Jellyfin operates.
I've found a fix for it that allows the content to play in the App on my Google TV 4k Streamer and thought I'd share. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere while I've been looking for a fix but if it has, I apologise for the duplicate.
Firstly, you need to have developer options enabled on your device. There's lots of guides for how to do that if you aren't sure.
Once enabled, make sure Jellyfin is fully closed including force closing it if necessary. Next go to Developer Options and scroll down until you find the section "Hardware Accelerated Rendering". You want to turn ON "Disable HW Overlays".
Launch Jellyfin and the content should now play. Couple of things of note:
1 - this is non-persistant. It will be lost on reboot so will need to be redone. Not a problem as you don't really want it on unless you need it for a particular file.
2 - Your mileage may vary. The file that I tested with that wouldn't play worked a charm with "Disable HW Overlays" turned on. But another HDR file that worked before, would only play at 10FPS.
