I've been trying everything to figure this out.
My music library is enriched with genre information via beets. the genre tags are comma separated.
I know jellyfin sees them, and filtering by genre works fine.
And yet, the genre tab in my music folder is always empty no matter what I do.
Upon writing this post, I also checked the tab in both my Movies and Shows libraries and noticed they were empty (I've never checked before because I only care about this tab for music), and they're empty there too. Those libraries also confirmed to have genre tags.
I've tried:
waiting for a couple weeks to see if some kind of background scan needed to happen.
manually verifying genre data is there on an artist, album, and track level, both in the filesystem and in jellyfin
rebuilding the library with varying settings (turning off and on external metadata, etc)
playing with the metadata manager (which sees the genres fine)
Reading the logs, pasting logs into an LLM to see if it could identify any problems. No dice, although I didn't really know what I was looking for
Nothing.
Setup: Jellyfin running on bare metal on a m1 mac mini, accessed remotely via tailscale
Any ideas
