    hey

I need a sever for my music that can transcode (automatically or on demand)... my use case are my kids audio books that I have mostly in flac and can sometimes be tricky when listening on the go and the connection is not good eg while driving long distance

I know I could mitigate the issue by just "taking the music" with me, but it's about the ad hoc/on demand situations

can jellyfin transcode music? and which app do you recommend for music usage?

or do you recommend something else?

Jellyfin can indeed transcode music. Just set up a music library and you can access it the same way you would your other libraries with Jellyfin.

That said, it will be up to you to see how well you like Jellyfin as a music server.

I just realized that I can use symfonium with jellyfin. symfonium was often mentioned in unison with navidrome as server... but if jellyfin can provide everything that symfonium needs, this might be a great combo. Will try it. Haven't found an option for transcoding though

Symfonium will transcode if the source file exceeds the mobile bitrate limit set in Settings > Playback > Decoding and transcoding > Mobile maximum bitrate. You don't configure the transcode settings on the Jellyfin server side.
