    Hi!
I've been using my Workstation to run Jellyfin server (among other things). Now, I pretend to have a dedicated home server for it. I'm thinking about buying a tiny PC, like an HP 400 G3 MINI CORE i5-7500T 16GB (mini PC) and running Jellyfin within Ubuntu server or Proxmox.
Is this a good build for jelly (transcoding, etc...)?

It depends on how many transcoding you will have at once and the resolution of your videos.
With the I5-7500T (kaby lake generation), you should be able to transcode easily roughly around 2/3 streams at 1080p and 1 in 4K, as long as the file are in avc/hevc. And 16gb of ram is plenty.
I believe this is a good build for jellyfin.
Remember, if you plan to have this outside your home, you should also check your upload bandwith. Smiling-face

If you only have a couple users, the 7500T should be plenty for SDR content. It can also tone map HDR content, but probably tops out at one stream.

I have 2 or 3 users max. The content (for now) is in 1080p. Another question: for FK library I'll use a 2TB disc. Is better an SSD disk or a SATA 2.5'' HDD 5400?

As long as Jellyfin and its database/cache runs on a SSD, most storage solutions will have no problem handling your user base.

Thanks for the quick responses. In my final poll I've 2 mini-pcs: HP 400 G3 i5-7500T and a Dell Optiplex i5-10400T. From what I read above, it's not worth spending a few more euros on the i5-10400T, right? Because of the codec that can be encoded are the same for both processors?

If the 10400T isn't that much more expensive, it might be worth it for the 2 extra cores and hyper-threading.

The i5's have already been sold. I'll move on with an HP Prodesk i3 9100T. I think it will also work well with JF

I've purchased an HP Prodesk i3 9100T. It's better to install Promox + Jellyfin or Ubuntu Server + Jellyfin or Ubuntu Server + Docker + Jellyfin? Apart from JF I'll use the home server as a print server and with some container for VPN and other stuff.

If you're going to have docker for other services, I'd say use Ubuntu + Docker + Jellyfin.
