I have been using audiobookshelf for a while after unsuccessfully trying my audiobooks in Jellyfin a few times. While audiobookshelf is better overall, since it is specifically designed to work with audiobooks, I am hoping to move this feature back over to Jellyfin, to keep everything in one media management system.

I still have to figure out creating opf files for all of my audiobooks, hopefully in an automated way (any hints or suggestions would be appreciated!), but once this is done, and the issue I am experiencing is worked out, I should be able to accomplish the mission.

I have been doing quite a bit of reading about Jellyfin's ability to track listening progress with audiobooks (all of my audiobooks are in m4b format, with proper chapters, etc) when setup in a Books library.

I gave it a try last night, and it's doing the same thing that I have experienced every time I have tried this. I listen for 5 or 10 or 20 minutes, well past the minimum resume time, but when I stop the audiobook, and then go to my home screen, or back to the audiobook directly, it just starts again from the beginning.

I am running the latest, 10.11.4, using jellyfin/jellyfin:latest (official repository).

I am using the web browser version of jellyfin for the client, since JMP is dated.

I am guessing that it must be me doing something wrong, but after all of the reading that I have done on this topic, I can't, for the life of me, figure out what it might be.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

OK, well, now I feel sheepish. I rebooted my system (host, docker env, etc) and resume is now working when I go back to the audiobook directly in the Books library, which is awesome.

But for some reason the book does not appear on the home page to resume listening, even though the option is set in the Home section of my user options "Display in home screen sections such as 'Recently Added Media' and 'Continue Watching'"

Any guidance on how to get this to show up on Home? The Recently Added Media section for Books is there, but the book that is in progress is not showing up under what I presume would be "Continue Watching" or maybe "Continue Listening"

I am not a smart man. Thank you for bothering to stop by. Perhaps this entry will at least help someone else figure out the basics, which I should know by now given my usage of this system for the past 4 years.

In order to get my partially listened to audiobook to show up on the Home page I needed to go to the user preferences Home section and set one of the dropdowns to "Continue Listening"

And that's all folks! From what I understand, this feature has been working reliably since 10.10.x, so I am more than a little slow on the uptake. Now off to create all of those opf files.............uggghhh. It's only painful the first time, but don't forget to create your backups so you don't lose all of that hard work, or it could be doubly painful if you have to recreate stuff again!

If anyone does have suggestions for automating the creation of opf files, I am definitely all ears.
