    Hey all,

I am looking to build a Jellyfin Home server with new hardware.

I want to be able to transcode no more than 2 4k streams simultaneously. If there is enough headroom, I would like to add additional functions to this homeserver (owncloud, home assistant, pihole).

This is the build I have put together. I would love to hear any criticisms or suggested changes.

    Thanks.

The F SKU Intel CPUs do not have an iGPU. Meaning no Quick Sync. You either need to get a non-F SKU or add a dedicated GPU.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

Hey, thanks for the reply. There is an A380 as part of that build.

    My bad. Missed that.

If you are only using this for Jellyfin, 16GB of RAM is fine. But since you going to add additional apps, you should get 32GB of RAM.

Any particular reason you are adding in the 2TB SATA SSD instead of a hard drive? There is no benefit to storing media on a SSD and it costs a lot more per TB. Only the OS and application disk needs to be a SSD.

You seem experienced and looking at your profile, i see you got a similar setup of what i'm planning to build. After doing some research I put together this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LdyvDj part list for a budget friendly server that would handle jellyfin and maybe immich. most of my collection would be 1080p remux and some of my favorites would be 4k remux, the server should be able to handle at least one stream of transcode 4k to 1080p if needed. Do you see any problems with my proposed setup or any improvements? Also do you have any idea what would be the best way to add multiple hard drives? I would prefer my setup to be scalable. I'm planning to use Ubuntu Server LTS as OS and all my services in docker containers. Btw I live in Germany and would also need to figure out how to run {apps we don't talk about - TDP} stack securly behind mullvad, and having my other services not using the vpn. Else I will get {stuff we don't talk about - TDP} here haha.

That is a perfectly reasonable setup for your needs. One thing that you should consider is the size of the case and number of SATA connections your selected motherboard has. How many disks do you plan to add now vs in the future. I pretty much had exactly what you've selected for a while. But I ended up getting a much larger case and now I've had to add a PCIe 1x SATA card for additional hard drives that my mATX board doesn't have enough connections for.

Having said that, I don't particularly like really big hard drives. I opted for smaller drives in a ZFS RAIDZ1 array. So that problem may be unique to me.

If you're certain of your future storage needs, ignore that part of my advise. But do keep it in mind.
